Off to Sommières and the ophthalmologist this morning. Docteur Combes's office was completely destroyed in the floods last September and the ground floor of her building is still uninhabitable - it's damp and covered in mould. The loss of all her information means sitting down with her for 10 minutes trying to remember my optical history, running all the eye tests again, filling in forms on her new computerised system and trying to remember the brand of my lenses and cleaning fluids. My eyes, it turns out, have strengthened slightly which explains why I find it hard to read books and a computer screen wearing my current contact lenses but not my spectacles - the spec prescription is a few years old now, the contact lenses from last year. Slightly weaker lenses are the way to go, she prescribes.
After the tests I wander into Sommières to pick up a baguette for lunch. Two of the three bakers are still being re-fitted after last September's floods and many other shops are still empty. Not surprising really when you remember that they had two metres or more of river flowing through them.
Home and I order some new lenses online before popping down to Durfort to see Neil and Ruth who need to get online in their French holiday home but are having problems. It turns out to be the cable they're using for their modem, and I pop back to the office to pick up a new one for them which does the trick. Always use the cable which came with your modem if you possibly can, they can be very temperamental about this sort of thing.

Fry: All what?
